Bismillah.

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

I seek Allah’s protection/refuge/shelter from Shaitaan, the Accursed one.

A beautiful explanation of the ista’aadha, done by br. Faraz Khan [h].

The ista’aadha is a very simple yet powerful tool. It’s us asking Allah [SWT] to shelter us from Shaitaan. The ista’aadha is like a canopy: we walk under it’s shade to protect ourselves from excessive sun or rain. Similarly, we ask Allah to provide us this canopy to protect us from the harmful attacks of Shaitaan.

Some times to make ista’aadha (a.k.a. to say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم):

  • when beginning to recite the Quran
  • after waking up
  • before sleeping
  • when angry

Some common ways of making ista’aadha:

  • saying أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
  • reciting Surah Falaq (113)
  • reciting Surah Naas (114)

May Allah protect us all from Shaitaan, the Cursed one.
