Tafsir Surah Kahf

Bismillah.

Introduction

In sha Allah, whenever possible on a Friday, a small tafsir of a portion of Surah Kahf will be posted. The tafsir is compiled by sister Amatul Wadood – who is a student at Al-Huda and Al-Maghrib Institutes – from her notes from the Taleemul Quran Diploma Course at the Al-Huda Institute.

The portions of Surah Kahf that will be posted each week may be one ayah, two ayahs, or more depending on the topic being discussed. I personally like the piecemeal approach – learning a small portion every week consistently – to learning Qur’an. This is because:

  1. It’s more effective as you can apply what you learned to your life immediately.
  2. It’s more beloved to Allah [SWT] to have something consistent than to have something haphazard.
  3. The Qur’an was revealed in a similar fashion to strengthen the resolve of the Prophet [SAWS].

Suratul Kahf is a Makkee surah (revealed before the hijrah) between the 8th and 10th year of Prophethood when the persecution was at the highest peak. It was revealed after Suratul Ghaasiyah (88). It has 110 ayaat (verses), 1,577 words, and 6,360 letters.

Tafsir Surah Kahf

Surah Kahf on a Friday

We are encouraged to recite/read Surah Kahf on Fridays. This is something proven from the Sunnah of the Prophet [SAWS]. Below is an excerpt from IslamQA.com on the authentic traditions from the Prophet about Surah Kahf.

There are saheeh ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning the virtues of reciting Soorat al-Kahf during the day or night of Jumu’ah (Friday). These include:

(a)     From Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”

(Narrated by al-Daarimi, 3407. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami, 6471)

(b)     “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.”

(Narrated by al-Haakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/249. It was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6470)

The soorah may be read during the night or the day of Jumu’ah. The night of Jumu’ah starts from sunset on Thursday, and the day of Jumu’ah ends at sunset. Therefore the time for reading this soorah extends from sunset on Thursday to sunset on Friday.

Assalam Alaikum

MashAllah, your posts are brilliant.

Is it possible for someone to have access to your entire tafseer notes ?

May Allah (SWT) grant you Jannah al-Firdous. Ameen

wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullah,

jazak Allahu khayran – inshaAllah with time the whole tafseer will be posted up. InshaAllah the goal is to have it finished within the next few months. InshaAllah maybe after Ramadan it will be complete. wa billahi tawfeeq.

Assalam Alaikum wa rahmatullah

Wa Iyyak.

May Allah (SWT) facilitate you to do so. Ameen.

I mean to say is it possible for you to share all your tafseer notes with others – on not on only Surah Kahf- in fact tafseer notes of the entire Qur`an ?

At the moment, there is a limited amount of Tafseer material available for the English-reading audience.

wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

SubhanAllah that would take a very long time 🙂 The course itself was a year and half. I understand the need for a more detailed English tafseer, I think it would be great if Al-Huda students combined their efforts and worked on this. I would like to get the opinion of a scholar/student of knowledge inshaAllah as well regarding a project such as this.

A better option for the meantime would be to take the classes yourself inshaAllah (brothers can take them) – they have saturday classes, full time classes and part time (twice a week). InshaAllah soon they should have the English audios released on the website.

Also, I would direct you to this site for more notes: http://theseekerspath.wordpress.com/ mashaAllah this sister has written a lot with regards to tafseer and has included many of the gems for each ayah and has a post for every surah up to Tahreem, may Allah reward her greatly.

may Allah guide us to what Pleases Him – Ameen.

Allah knows best.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Hi,
I have found your site while searching suras. Can you please provide correct pronunciation of English and Bangla (from Arabic) with no missing words?
As everytime I listen suras and read in english pronunciation its shows some missing or extra words compare to the audio.
Please inform me in my email if you do so.

Regards,
Shafi

mashallah its really really good keep it up, may Allah give u long life and he always bless u, I m really siner may my Allah forgive me and show to me right way,

Assalamu Alaikum Warahamtu Allah
This website is such an amazing resource. I greatly appreciate that you have published this work for everyone to benefit. May Allah reward you for this in this world and the next. May Allah bless you and your family and all the work that you do for His sake. Will you be adding the rest of the tafseer for Surah Kahf here in the near future? Jazakum Allahu Khair

Do you have the rest of the Surah? I can only find upto Ayat 54. MashaAllah, it is very detailed and easy to understand. May Allah reward you for your effort.

JazakAllah for posting this!..This is truly beneficial~! Please keep it up and post the rest of the Ayahs as well:)

All of the Ahadith regarding the virtue of Surah Al-Kahf (including the ones mentioned above) are weak. But there is an athar from Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) which is authentic, and carries the hukm of Marfu’ because it could not have been his own opinion. Allah knows best.

Assalam Alaikum wa rahmatullahe wa barakatu

Is there any hadith or recommendation on how much part of the surah kahf should we recite on friday ?

Plz answer Jazak Allah

You should try to recite all of it. If not all, then the first 10 and last 10 ayaat.

Regards, Aarij Anwer.
